Ron
Stewart is president and founder
of Stewart Lawn and Landscape Management.
He began the company in 1988 when
he was twenty years old and is
actively involved in its operation
today.
Ron started by cutting grass
and doing lawn maintenance. Gradually, he began to offer more
advanced treatments such as fertilizing, weed control, over-seeding
and aeration. A few years later, he was offering design
and landscaping services as well. "It seemed like easy work,"
he jokes.
Born and raised in Annapolis,
Ron lives in Eastport and is active in many community activities.
Most recently he served as a volunteer for the Eastport civic
association. He maintains a number of community properties
for the neighborhood.
His love of landscaping came
from his grandmother. "She had a green thumb and she got me
interested in plants. She was a member of the landscape design
council for the Washington D.C. area and would take me to
design seminars when I was young. My uncle had a doctorate
in landscaping. I was surrounded by it and I was fascinated."
"I just have a love of landscaping design," he says.
"The more I learn, the more I realize
there is to learn. I'm always trying to improve my knowledge
and I love the creative aspects of the work."
He has taken advanced classes at
the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., at the University
of Maryland and at Anne Arundel Community College. He
has taken numerous creative classes as well as technical courses,
including environmentally-safe pesticides and fertilizers.
Professional Knowledge
Ron is licensed by the Maryland Department
of Agriculture for pesticides and treatment of turf disease. He
is a member of the Association of Landscape Contractors of
America, Professional Grounds Maintenance Society, and the
Maryland Turf Grass Council.
"One of my first projects
was a 300-foot long stone wall in Ulmstead Estates,"
says Ron. "It took four of us a month to build it.
Once we did it, I knew that this was the type of thing I wanted
to do with my life."
